The Black Girl's Guide to Healing Emotional Wounds
There were many days that I was cursed out. There were many days that my life was threatened. There were also many times that I spent lots of energy providing clients with career coaching only for them to no-show for a job interview I had arranged for them. These were some of the challenges I faced in my professional career overseeing programs to help individuals from the most marginalized communities achieve self-sufficiency. This work allowed me to see the impacts of the crack cocaine epidemic, forced gentrification, untreated mental health disorders, and environmental trauma on the Black community. The behavior that I saw in my clients was a reflection of the abandonment wounds, childhood trauma, and unhealed emotions that these forces left behind that were unresolved.
At some point though, I began to see some of my own toxic behavior which was quite similar to my clients (let’s be real here); lashing out when disappointed, being easily offended, low self-esteem, etc. These behaviors were ways I was self-sabotaging and destroying my peace.
I believe as Black women many of us display behaviors that have been passed down from our family members that they relied on to survive the most vulnerable moments in our history. These behaviors are no longer helpful for us and often rob us of our peace and prosperity.
I am here to offer Black women and girls an opportunity to become emotionally whole while we continue to dismantle the tropes and stereotypes all while shattering glass ceilings. The objective is for every single Black woman and girl in our world to take a step towards becoming emotionally whole and chipping away at the pain and generational trauma that harms us while assuring that the spaces we work and play in are emotionally safe spaces for us. We can change the world, but the change must start with ourselves first.
Take the journey to heal with me as we collectively move Black women and girls from crisis to excellence
